Gujarat alone has several types of marriage songs or “Lagn geet” with distinct styles among castes belonging to arts such as mir, Barot, Charan, Gadhvi, Turi, Bhavaya, Nayak, Targada, Rabari, Adivasi, Jain, Bhudev, Thakor, Darbar, and Muslim castes. There is also diversity in Lagn geet across different regions in Gujarat, with peacock or cuckoo being a muse in every community’s marriage song.
