Himanshu Desai is a self-taught guitar player and has performed with 25+ rock bands globally, including with his own band Neelkanth Paradigm. He has a degree in Industrial Design and a Masters in Arts Criticism as his educational foundations, but currently teaches guitar to aspiring musicians.
He has lived a life of traveler moving from one place to another to follow his career & artistic aspirations. He started his trials with jazz after performing for an experimental theater group, that led him to become prolific player. His concept Neelkanth Redux for Abhivyakti Edition 2 comes from his time as a young musician in Banaras. Here, living and playing music with nomadic saints, he literally ‘discovered’ music, in a form never before tried on guitar. He called this scale ‘The Neelkanth Tuning’ and considers it a gift from lord Shiva. His composition highlights indo-centric approach to guitar playing, deviating from the traditional, rock & metal cacophonies and in his words “it’s going to be 1 hour of solid fun for the audience”.
