Jayan Nair’s, love for music began from a very early age. After his training in Carnatic Music, he came to Ahmedabad and learned one of the rarest string instruments, the Chitra Veena at Darpana Academy. Till recently he was an instructor at Darpana, and is now working independently as a singer-musician.

His concept for Abhivyakti’s edition 2 is a very unique one, wherein he will weave the story told in Naadanpatu’s Gujaratayaan, a folklore from Kerala, into the rhythm and expression of Gujarati Dayro. He conceived this idea after understanding that while stories inherent to folk music may be presented in a different way based on region they originate from, there are several similarities in them. Working with the Dyaro legends, the Ghadvis, he then started working on a script that will be a meld of Gujarat and Kerala style of expression, with traditional Nandan Pat fundamentals taking a tad bit more precedence. He quotes that “With this composition, it is my aim to present the stories told in traditional folk songs in local language so maximum people can understand not just the music but also the tales of the land”.
