Aaj Rang Hai
Bhavans
As a little girl, Rupashi frequented the Kadam School of Dance often with her mother. But no sooner did she start her training under her mentor Padma Shri. Kumudini Lakhia, the school became her second home. She graduated as Kathak Dancer from Kadam and started performing as a dancer from 2007.
It was early 2018 when Rupanshi first heard the story of Nizam Auliya and Amir Khusro. Emotionally touched by the beautiful narrative of the relationship between pupil and his master, Rupanshi’s developed a personal attachment to the concept and decided to make it as a unique Dance-Drama performance at Abhivyakti Edition 2. Another unique aspect of this expressive piece is that it will be performed by children, using Kathak as the base, combined with expressions drawn from theater and dance disciplines. She quotes that “despite being from a dance background, I have taken up this challenge to find a meld between dance & theater, where my story is the hero”.
