Al-Qawi Tazal Nanavati and Pramila Choudhary

Al Qawi Tazal Nanavati is an astounding artist whose artworks reflect the essence and importance of meditation, prayer and Islamic practices that have had a major influence on her life. She completed her Bachelor in Fine Arts from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago. Accompanying Al-Qawi in this project is Pramila Choudhary, a re-entrant to the stage of Abhivyakti and sustainable textile & fashion designer, textile artist and designer educator who graduated from the National Institute of Design.

These two artists bonded over their similar tragedies of losing a loved one. And ignited by this bond and mutual salvation, Al-Qawi and Pramila came up with the idea for their project. They aim to create a densely packed curtain-like structure, made of knitted pods that portrays the loss of love of every kind. These curtains, made from clothes they collected from people who have lost their owners, represent the world we are in, the losses faced by everyone around us, and how we as people rise above our failure and embrace love again.
